Even before el bebé learns the doggie says
“guau guau” and the kitty says “miau miau,”
baby knows the little chicks say “pío pío pío.”
Credit the sweet, traditional lullaby “Los Pollitos Dicen.”

The Latin mamita spends her days and even some
long nights, nuzzling and kissing, kissing, kissing
baby’s chubby cheeks. “Oh, Gordito,” she says,
“You are so delicioso!”

Push back the furniture, roll up the rugs and
turn up la música! That’s la diferencia between
a party at the kiddie table and an all-out ¡pachanga!
So shake your maracas and par-TAY Latin style.
¡Que vida rica!

“¡Fo, que peste!” P-U-Phew! Something is stinky,
and chances are it’s a messy little pollito.
Try this funny Spanish phrase in any smelly situation
to get your little chick chortling, for sure.

“¿Upa, Papá?” baby says holding her arms
way up over her head. “Uuuupaaaaaah,”
says the daddy, lifting his growing chick
and holding her so, so close. Upa just feels good.

In Spanish “candela” means fire. In Cuban-speak,
however, it means “spitfire.” Or, if you’re Abuelita,
it definitely means “take them home now!”

What beautiful noise, the crash and pop of
the piñata with its downpour of festive caramelitos.
Everyday should be your Felíz Cumpleaños.
